SUMMER ESCAPE TO LAKE BLED
4.8
Spend the day on a glacial lake surrounded by snow covered mountains. Visit the castle and museum perched on a 130-metre rock overlooking the lake and mountains. Take a boat ride to Bled, the only island in Slovenia.

What will you do?

Lake Bled is the perfect picture of Alpine serenity. On this tour, you’ll discover one of Slovenia’s most scenic destinations – a postcard-worthy landscape of emerald waters, a dramatic cliff-top castle and the stunning peaks of the Julian Alps rising in the background. Slovenia is just a short journey from Istria, making it an easy and rewarding trip. Along the way you’ll notice forested hillsides, charming Alpine chalets and the enchanting island in the middle of the lake. This tiny wooded island is reached by 99 stone steps that lead to the historic Church of the Assumption of Mary. As you explore the lakeside, keep an eye out for the traditional Pletna boat – a flat-bottom wooden boat usually rowed by a single oarsman. These iconic boats have been used for centuries to carry visitors to and from Bled Island. The tour begins with a visit to the impressive Bled Castle, dramatically perched on a steep cliff overlooking the lake. With its distinctive towers and ancient walls, the castle offers spectacular views from nearly 130 metres above the water. Afterwards, you’ll board a traditional Pletna boat for a peaceful ride across the lake to the island itself. The charming chapel there is surrounded by local legends. One tradition says visitors should ring the famous “wishing bell” to make a wish. Another local custom tells that if a couple wishes to marry at the chapel, the groom must carry his bride up all 99 steps leading to the church.
